Home renovations have soared during the pandemic, and many people have taken to social media to share their home transformations, from painting cupboards, upcycling furniture, or completely remodelling their homes, and TikTok has become a Mecca for inspiration.
The Independent reports that one TikTok user, Jordan Darian posted a short video of her bathroom renovation, which has gained over 20 million views. She has been renovating her home since she moved in, and many have praised her and her husband for making a live-in renovation work.
“The first year was an actual living nightmare but the labour of love was worth it and everyone tells us if we made it through a live-in renovation our marriage will stand the test of time, and I’d have to agree,” she said.
However, after listening to her mother talking about using old pennies for flooring, she set to glueing 7,700 one-cent coins to the floor with $300 worth of glue, followed by a layer of resin, as seen on her TikTok post.
“How many penny floors have you seen? I love fun decor and design surprises in a home,” she said.
However, an eagle-eyed fan pointed out that there is a particular coin that could be worth quite a large amount of money. In 1996 one of the 1943 copper-alloy pennies sold for $82,500, but there was no confirmation if one had been encased in the resin.
“Since posting the video to TikTok I learned I may have made a very big mistake by not checking the pennies prior to permanently adhering them to my floor,” she admitted.
“I had no idea a penny could be so valuable, and there are at least eight wheat pennies, upside down, so we are unable to check the year.”
