Underfloor Heating Adds £7k To House Prices

Having underfloor heating in the bathroom is so popular, it can even boost the property value by as much as £7,000.

This is according to House Beautiful, which revealed it is the 28th most-searched-for bathroom trend of the year. There have been more than 15,000 online searches for ‘underfloor heating’ over the last 12 months, proving just how much people love getting out of the shower and stepping on to a warm floor.

“You can heat up your after-shower toes and your bank balance at the same time by adding underfloor heating to your home,” the publication recommended.

Bathroom tiles are the item homeowners and buyers looked up the most, followed by freestanding tubs and electric showers.

Wet rooms, jacuzzi tubs, and heated towel racks were also popular, which shows that people’s desires and interests for their bathroom design has not changed a lot over the last few years.

Despite wet rooms being the fourth most popular item with regards to online searches, it is thought to add less value to a property than underfloor heating.

Kev Tilley from Mortgageable told the news provider: “Wet rooms have grown in popularity in recent years, but are much like marmite, as many house hunters still like to have access to a bathtub.”

According to the expert, this could be why they only add between £2,000 and £5,000 to a property’s value.

Homes that have laminate flooring in the bathroom need to be considered carefully, as water can cause damage to the floors, including a build-up of mould and mildew, if they are not properly installed.
