How To Avoid Common Countertop Problems

You’ve just finished remodelling your kitchen, and you’re in love with your new kitchen countertops. Without a doubt, you’re keen to keep them in pristine condition for as long as you can.

However, the kitchen can be a busy place with lots going on, and even in kitchens with the right flow and space accidents can happen, but there are some common problems you can avoid to help prevent damage to your worktops.

Avoid the Edges

If you have any heavy or hot appliances, avoid placing them at the end of countertops, as the excessive heat or extra weight can cause cracks along the edges and surface. Ensure you use protective mats or heat pads to protect the surface.

Clean with Care

The kitchen counters are exposed to a multitude of germs, and it’s completely understandable as to why you might reach for the beach after an evening of cooking. However, some heavy cleaning products can strip countertops of the natural finish. Try to keep the mess contained to one area of the counter, and a little bit of dish soap and warm water will care for your counters.

Watch for Too Much Water

You need water to help clean and cat for your countertops, but too much water can lead to water buildup and unnecessary stains, particularly around sinks. A little steel wool will help remove any white watermarks that begin to appear.

Be Mindful

Even the biggest kitchen can get swamped when preparing big meals, but if you need to chop, cut, or slice anything, always use a chopping board, as scratches can occur easily from knives and being careless.

If you spill anything, make sure to clean it up with a soft cloth right away. Products left sitting for periods can still get through protective resins if they’re left untreated.

Caring for your countertops sometimes means taking those extra steps to make sure they last in the long term.
